Welcome to Lesson Plans Revisited!

I’m Amerah Pioquinto. I’m a secondary English Language Arts teacher at a very small town in the DFW area of Texas. I have been married to my quirky and supportive husband, Giovanny, for 4 years and we have a beautiful, energetic 6 month old baby girl, Isla, and two dogs, Milo and Django.

As for qualifications, I am currently in my second year of teaching. I teach Honors English I, English III, Literary Genres, and Creative Writing. I know I still have so much to learn about this profession and that it will forever be a learning process.

So what’s the purpose of this blog?

Let me be completely honest and say that the first reason I am doing this has nothing to do with teaching. I am starting this blog along with my social media and Teachers Pay Teachers accounts because of my family. My goal is to make money on the side to help pay with bills, toys for my daughter, and family trips. Since having Isla, I have wanted to stay at home with her so badly because she is my number one priority; however, that’s not in the cards for us right now. I am hoping to eventually save up enough money to take some time off from teaching and be a stay at home mom before returning to teaching.

The second reason has everything to do with teaching. As a Christian, one of the things that brings me the biggest joy is serving others and making their lives better. I view this blog as an opportunity to do that for my fellow teachers. My plan for this blog is to post about lesson plans that I have made and be brutally honest with myself and you about what worked, what didn’t, and my plans on how to improve those lesson plans. Some posts will also have to do with being a full-time teaching mom. As a new mother, I often find myself searching for tips and tricks about balancing motherhood and teaching high school, but that type of content is few and far between. I would like to help other teacher-mommas with the kind of content I wish would have found more on like the realities maternity leave as a teacher, pumping at work, etc.

This is my first experience with blogging. I do not have a set schedule for when I will be posting new content yet, but I will post as frequently as I can. This will be different at varying times of the year. When school is out for breaks or it’s summer, you can expect more content. During the school year, my relationship with my family and my students’ education are the most important so that will mean less frequent blog posts.

Life is not perfect. Neither are lesson plans. Let’s go back and make both as best as they can be. Come along with me on this crazy, blessed journey of being a teacher.
